Perms Have Evolved and are Looking Great

Perms have earnt themselves a bad rep. Order a perm and receive a side of breakage and frizziness, a large helping of unnatural curls, all washed down with the smell of rotten egg perm solution. Not your ideal salon trip. But poodle perms are virtually extinct and the age of great perms is upon us. If you won’t take our word for it, take Jenna Dewan’s.

The new descendants of the 80’s perm solution contain chemicals that are much less damaging, resulting in less breakage and less frizz. Stylists have also developed a better understanding of perms in recent years, your only option is no longer a spiral perm (although Jenna’s Instagram photo is a worthy example). A range of perm rods and solutions are available to tailor the perm to your taste. Stylists can control curl tightness, direction of curl, even type of curl, allowing them to create from the tightest of spirals to the most natural waves. And the smell? Considerably less pungent. Some perm solutions are even scented.
Don’t be put off by the perms questionable track record. The whole process has evolved to help you achieve the curls you’ve always wanted, with less hair unfriendly consequences.
