Heart Health with MPowder
February is National Heart Awareness Month. Cardiovascular Disease is both the UK’s and the world’s number one killer, according to the World Health Organization. An estimated 17.9 million people died from CVDs in 2019, representing 31% of all global deaths. We would like to provide information to our customers at all stages of life as to how best care for their bodies to prevent the risk of heart disease. So we spoke to medical experts at MPowder regarding the importance of heart care during menopause:
Dr Julie Moltke, medical consultant at Mpowder explains:
"Oestrogen has a protective effect on our heart-health which explains why you generally see more heart disease in men. However, after menopause, our oestrogen levels drop, and with this the risk of cardiovascular disease increases. And this is why leading a healthy lifestyle becomes extra important at this stage. I recommend eating a balanced diet with lots of healthy fats and vegetables (a Mediterranean diet is my go-to), and most importantly low in refined carbs and sugar. Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fatty-fish also protect the heart. Moderate daily exercise like walking or jogging is recommended as they also decrease the risk of osteoporosis which increases when estrogen is low. If you haven't managed to stop yet, now is the ultimate time to quit smoking"
Dr Julie continues
"MPower Peri-Boost has a unique blend of ingredients that work together to improve heart health and overall perimenopause health. The isoflavones from soy have an oestrogen-like effect and can also lower cholesterol. Several of the many ingredients including ginger, flaxseed, and raw cacao have great anti-inflammatory effects, and cinnamon and ginger can help decrease sugar cravings and improve blood sugar. These are just some of the beneficial effects of the ingredients which can also help improve mood and cognition."
Rebekah Brown, founder of MPowder, adds;
'Our blends are designed to act as a foundation layer in midlife. To nourish your body with what it needs as it transitions through menopause. And, each day in our community we see what women are capable of when they harness their health through nutrition and make that foundation strong; quite simply - EVERYTHING!'
